Carol McDermott retired as a research nutritionist from the University of Arizona in 2005. She is married with four children, two of whom have a serious mental illness, and has five grandchildren, including one who receives mental health services. She has been a member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) for 15 years. She has served as President of the NAMI Phoenix Board of Directors, on the NAMI Arizona Public Policy Committee and the NAMI Watchdogs, and as instructor of NAMI Signature programs Family-to-Family and Basics. She is also a member of the Arizona Peer and Family Coalition Board, the Crisis Recovery Network Governing Council, and was recently appointed to the Board of Mercy Maricopa Integrated Care. She has volunteered in the ADHS/DBHS Office of Individual and Family Affairs for three years.
Carol is a strong believer in recovery and in early identification and treatment and continues to advocate for improved services for our loved ones. She enjoys reading, outdoor exercise, and travel for personal pleasure.
