2012 ACT Health Fair
The Family Involvement Center staff and volunteers registered and hosted
a table at the recent ACT Kids Health Fair on Saturday, September 29,
2012, at The Salvation Army Ray & Joan KROC CORPS Community Center
in Phoenix. The Arizona Coalition for Tomorrow (ACT) is a not-for profit
organization of concerned citizens committed to improving the health and
education readiness of low-income children.
Over 1,500 people attended this event. We distributed information, stress
balls, chap-stick, balloons and flyers regarding upcoming events and
activities hosted by the Family Involvement Center.
The annual ACT Kids Health Fair makes it possible for children to receive dental, vision, hearing, and asthma screenings, as blood test, immunizations, physicals, Tuberculosis and lead testing as well as immunizations and basic health screenings. Children ages 4-5 could also have literacy and reading screenings. Adults were able to have blood-pressure and diabetes screenings. Everyone was entertained by clowns and other Valley mascots during the event. Arts, crafts, and face painting are provided by volunteers, while people dressed as Marvel Comic characters milled around the crowd.
